War. Environmental damage. Environmental restoration. Accountability

12. November 2026
17:00 – 18:10
Ukraine Pavilion

The environment cannot remain a silent victim of war: the environmental consequences and greenhouse gas emissions resulting from Russia’s armed aggression must be fully documented, assessed and accounted for.

In Ukraine and far beyond its borders, a broad community of experts and organisations has emerged to document environmental damage, assess its short- and long-term impacts, investigate hidden risks and develop solutions for environmental recovery, guided, among others, by the recommendations of the Environmental Compact for Ukraine.

Ukraine should turn this experience into international leadership by advancing comprehensive accounting for wartime environmental damage and accountability for those responsible.
